Historic Collaboration Launched to Provide Africa’s Farmers Technologies, Roads and Resources
On June 11, the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) and the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA), two of the world’s largest grant-making organizations in African agricultural development, joined forces in a plan to help African countries tackle poverty and hunger through smart, sustainable solutions to improve the productivity and incomes of small-scale farmers and poor rural households.

On June 9, the United States and Peru signed a two-year, $35.6 million Millennium Challenge Corporation threshold program agreement to help the Government of Peru improve its performance on MCC’s “Control of Corruption” and “Immunization Rates” indicators.
Leading International NGOs, Think Tanks and Senators join President Bush in Support of Full Funding for MCC
On June 13, the Initiative for Global Development, a national alliance of business leaders championing effective solutions to global poverty, joined a growing list of influential NGOs, other development policy experts and administration officials in speaking out against a proposed cut to the budget of the poverty fighting Millennium Challenge Corporation. The cut was part of the recently passed Senate 2008 Supplemental Appropriations Bill.
MCC Board of Directors Approves Poverty Reduction Grant for Burkina Faso to Improve, Agriculture, Roads, Girls’ Education and Land Use
On June 17, the Millennium Challenge Corporation’s Board of Directors approved a $480.9 million Millennium Challenge poverty reduction grant with Burkina Faso. The five-year agreement will help the landlocked West African nation reduce poverty and stimulate economic growth through strategic investments to improve agricultural productivity, land use rights and land management, farm-to-market roads, and girls’ primary education.
Millennium Challenge Corporation Holds Private Sector Dialogue Sessions to Explore Collaborative Trade and Investment Opportunities
On June 4-6, the Millennium Challenge Corporation hosted dialogue sessions between the private sector and the teams developing MCC compact programs for Jordan, Malawi, Moldova, and Senegal. In total, the dialogue sessions attracted over one hundred fifty international investors from various sectors, particularly agriculture, infrastructure, and finance.
